Sign Anti-gay Marriage Bill Now - Anglican Bishop Urges Jonathan

The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese, Asaba, Justus Mogekwu, has appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to accent to the anti-gay marriage bill.

Mr. Mogekwu made the plea in Asaba on Friday during the funeral church service for Angelina Azinge, mother of Prof. Epiphany Azinge, Director General, Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Service.

The cleric said that same sex marriage had nothing to do with human rights, describing it as a curse. He thanked the National Assembly for insisting that same sex marriage was evil and for unanimously kicking against it.

The bishop said the action of the National Assembly showed that God wants to save Nigerians.

According to him, the prophesy contained in the Book of Revelation, chapter 18, is being manifested as the world powers are now sinking in the atrocity of same sex marriage.

“I want to therefore plead with the National Assembly to appeal to the President to sign the anti-gay marriage bill into law. Same sex marriage is evil; we will survive without the world powers, the world is coming to an end,” he said.

The anti-same sex marriage bill, supported by majority of Nigerians but criticised by several Western nations and groups, is yet to be signed into law by President Jonathan.

The cleric also lauded the virtues of Mrs. Azinge who died at 89 years as a fulfilled woman and one who feared and honoured God.

He urged the family to emulate their mother’s lifestyle and also bring up their children in the ways of God.

Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta extolled the virtues of Mrs. Azinge saying “Mama’s life is a typical study of human capital development and there are lessons to learn from her life.”

He said Mrs. Azinge excelled in her business endeavours despite the fact that she could not conclude her secondary school education.

The governor said his administration had put necessary infrastructure in place to ensure that every child had good education. He urged parents to give valuable advice and caution their children so that they would become useful to the society.
